FROM ITAI VHUDZIJENA’S DESK ✍️

‘A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure inspite of overwhelming obstacles’ ~ Christopher Reeve

My parternal grandmother, Mukai Mukundu Chapfumbu Mutubuki was one such hero.

In our society, we have such unsung heroes.

They may come in the form of our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, nieces, cousins, grandfathers, fathers, uncles, nephews even teachers.

These angels live among us and they blend in our families and society so seamlessly that if we don’t pay attention, we may even fail to recognize them.

Their commitment and dedication to excellence; helping out in the family; being the ROCK and strong foundation for the family is something that can go unnoticed; as we take their love and dedication for granted.

‘A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart ♥️’ ~ Hercules

Whilst my grandma was no Hercules, her shear inner strength of character and purpose could have over-powered any Hercules any day.

Mukai Mukundu Chapfumbu Mutubuki, a true woman of substance!!

In my book 📕, Mukai, Arise!, I captured the story of this larger than life story for myself, my father, my children, my sisters, and Mukai’s twelve great-grandchildren and counting.

“Life has many ways of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once’ ~ Paulo Coelho

In Mukai’s life, everything was happening all at once … from having her father die when she was at a tender age; to her mother refusing to be married off to a traditional husband; to her being ‘abandoned’ by her mother at her grandmother’s; to being shunned by society; to her husband abandoning her with a one year old baby; to living a life as a single Mum in a society that still believed that a woman’s place was in the kitchen …

But Mukai’s story teaches us that ‘With hope, the odds don’t matter’ ~ inkhappi.com

Her story teaches us that ‘A single thread of hope is still a very powerful thing’ ~ Cozy Little House Blog
