Ever since I got Published, one of the most interesting questions I get asked by Readers, Friends, Colleagues and prospective Writers is, 'How do you write a Book?'
To me, this is a perplexing question because writing comes to me as naturally as breathing.
Its what I do.
I love it.
I enjoy it.
I am in my zone, my element, my most favourite place in the world.
I can sit for 12 to 14 hours just writing and writing and never get tired or bored.
So, here, I will share with you 10 points of what works for me.
Point 1:
Write about something you believe in - something that resonates with you - something that interests you greatly.
When you come from this angle, you are emanating from your anchor, your core beliefs.
This will ensure that no matter what distractions come your way during the days, weeks and months that you are writing your Manuscript, you will not lose momentum or interest in your writing.
Point 2:
Focus
Focus is extremely important.
No matter what other duties, chores, responsibilities you have to take care of, remain focused.
Continue coming back to your centre, your writing.
Point 3:
Schedule your Writing Time
This is extremely important so that no matter how busy you get during the course of each day, you are still able to keep on track and continue with your writing.
This helps you to get organized.
Point 4:
Be regular
Nothing beats being regular with your Writing.
If your habit is to write daily, then by golly, write daily !!
No drips and drabs ...today you concentrate on your writing ...tomorrow you put it off. The following day you attempt again to sit down and write.
Not a good idea.
This affects your flow of thought and momentum.
You don't need such self - imposed interruptions whilst you are working on your Manuscript.
Point 5:
Be disciplined
When writing your Manuscript, you have no boss who tells you what to do and when.
You are accountable only and entirely to yourself.
Your time is your own.
Coach yourself to manage it in a way that serves you and keeps you productive ... constantly and consistently plodding along the finish line of your Manuscript.
Point 6:
Research
Depending on the genre of your Book, sometimes it might be required upon you to do some Research on some facts.
With the advent of the Internet, information has never been more at our fingertips than it has in the recent years.
Make full and good use of it.
Point 7:
A conducive work environment
I find I work best in a quiet, peaceful environment.
If I find myself in a noisy environment whilst busy writing my Manuscript, I like to put on a pair of headphones, switch to my favourite music and drown out the noise.
This works wonders for me.
Point 8:
Do not be afraid to be you - be authentic.
Even when you are dealing with rather controversial topics, stick to what excites or intrigues you.
You are unique.
Embrace that.
Point 9:
Be creative.
Do not be afraid to use those creative juices !!
Let them flow.
Point 10:
Have fun!
Enjoy the process.
Remember you are in your zone, in your element, in your favourite place.
Happy writing everyone!!
