Christmas 🎄 is upon us!

Once again, Christmas is upon us!!

Incredible, because it was just now we were celebrating the last one!!

Time sure is flying!!

Christmas is definitely one of my favourite seasons.

I love the ambience, the feel and air of Christmas.

Growing up, I remember, whenever we entered this festive month, the atmosphere around the house would magically transform.

Somehow, a shift would occur.

Peace, harmony, a sense of calmness and tranquility would envelope the whole home environment.

Beautiful!!

Every year, Mum would bake a Christmas Cake exactly two weeks before Christmas.

As kids, we would watch her get busy and would do our bit by helping her assemble all the baking ingredients; quickly sneaking some currants and raisins into our mouths when she was not looking!!

Of course, she would do all the measuring, mixing and baking!!

I was pretty bad at it!!

I would watch her carefully read the recipe; accurately measure all the ingredients and pour them into various baking containers; expertly mix the ingredients in the colourful Mixing Bowl 🥣; then eventually pour the liquid Cake mix into a Cake tin and place it in the oven where it would bake at a selected temperature.

The concentration on her face as she busied herself in this way would mesmerise and fascinate me.

Her attention to detail was out of this world.

Astounding!!

The aroma that would emanate from the oven forty five minutes to an hour later would send our taste buds flying!!

As if that was not enough, our mouths would salivate each time we passed the display cabinet and spot the now baked cake 'standing' there majestically in a transparent Cake Tin in the display cabinet beckoning us to 'touch' it!!

The temptation to nibble a piece was more than we could bear as children, but we daren’t TOUCH that Cake!

It was out of bounce until Christmas Day!!

The 'tempter' would remain majestically perched like this in the display cabinet for another week when Mum would then carefully remove it from its position, carry it to the kitchen and apply icing on it.

I tell you, by this time we would be salivating ... literally!!

She would add these fascinating designs around the Cake.

It was like watching a Creative Artist at work creating her perfect Masterpiece!!

Incredible!!

Christmas could not come fast enough!!

By this time, we would sink our teeth into this delicious, rich, sweet cake with such gusto and enthusiasm, Mum would just chuckle to herself.

And of course, not forgetting the Christmas decorations, not only on the tree but around the house as well.

Christmas Carols would soothe and tantalise our senses from morning till night 🌙

And of course, it was also a time of prayer.

We would attend Mass at a local Cathedral.

Beautiful memories!!

Talk about a rich tradition!!
